The UK Postcode Finder uses the free postcodes.io open data API to look up information about any valid UK postcode. Data includes the postcode's administrative area, ward, parliamentary constituency, county, country, and precise GPS coordinates.
UK postcodes follow a structured format: outward code (1-2 letters + 1-2 digits, e.g. SW1A) + space + inward code (1 digit + 2 letters, e.g. 1AA). Together: SW1A 1AA. They identify areas down to a street or part of a street.
Postcodes.io is a free, open-source UK postcode API. It uses data from Ordnance Survey, National Statistics, and other government sources under the Open Government Licence. No API key is required for basic lookups.
You can enter a full postcode for precise results. The autocomplete feature will suggest valid postcodes as you type based on a partial outward code.
The tool shows the nearest postcodes to the one you looked up, using the postcodes.io nearest endpoint. This can be useful for finding neighbouring areas or expanding a search radius.
